Once there was a little girl with congenital analgesia, meaning she could feel no pain. Her mother discovered this shortly after the girl's first birthday, when she was found leaning on the radiator, the skin on her shins and palms smoking from the scalding heat. The girl took many antibiotics and was given a Capuchin monkey as a disability aid, who navigated her away from paper cutters, teakettles, slamming doors and prickly bushes. They played bloody knuckles together. She always let him win.
